Course information
- Description:
Statistics 528 is the first course in a three quarter sequence of data analysis (Stat 528, 529 and 530). The main focus is to introduce descriptive statistics, probability and statistical inference. It is intended for students from various fields of study to learn basic concepts and tools for statistical reasoning. The second course, Stat 529, will provide more advanced statistical tools or methods used in scientific investigations. Completion of this sequence will help you to understand quantitative analyses and conclusions contained in many of the journal articles in your field, and to communicate with a statistician more effectively later.

Computing
- We will use MINITAB for computing in this course. For those who have not used Minitab before, here is a short MINITAB tutorial (generously provided by Dr. Peter Craigmile).
- OSU has a site license for MINITAB.
It is installed in the following labs:
Agricultural Administration Building 0005, Baker Systems 590, Campbell Hall 119, Science & Engineering Library 0120, and Stillman Hall 235. - For a current list of public computing sites at OSU with MINITAB, click here and select Minitab.
- Check out OIT (Office of Information Technology) for general information on technology support and services on campus.
- If you want to use MINITAB at home or on your own computer, go to Minitab website. You may download a free demo version for a month.
