Ph.D. in Statistics, University of Wisconsin-Madison, 2002
My research interests lie in nonparametric function estimation, reproducing kernel Hilbert space methods in particular, classification, and statistical learning. My current research mainly focuses on the development of methods and computational tools for statistical learning from high dimensional data with potentially many irrelevant attributes to a response variable, where feature selection, regularization, and efficient computation are critical in modeling and prediction. I am also interested in theoretical analysis of various statistical/machine learning methods.
[July 2012] I am on Senior Program Committee for the fourth Asian Conference on Machine Learning (ACML 2012) held in Singapore.
[January 2012] I was on Program Committee for Conference on Statistical Learning and Data Mining, Ann Arbor, MI, June 5-7, 2012.
[September 2011] I was on Program Committee for the first International Conference on Pattern Recognition Applications and Methods (ICPRAM 2012) in Portugal.
[August 2011] I served on Program Committee for the Joint Statistical Meetings (JSM 2012) in San Diego.
[July 2011] I served on Senior Program Committee for the third Asian Conference on Machine Learning (ACML 2011) held in Taiwan.
[June 2011] I joined the Editorial Board of the ASA journal Statistical Analysis and Data Mining as Associate Editor.
[March 2011] I was on sabbatical leave for Winter and Spring quarters of 2011, visiting Department of Statistics, Seoul National University, Korea.
