Faculty and TA Development
Faculty and TA Development (FTAD) is an organization that helps faculty and TAs “in becoming the finest teachers they wish to be.” FTAD supports teaching at Ohio State by providing information, consultation, and event coordination. The following describes the services and programs provided by FTAD.
FTAD Services
- Consultation Services
- FTAD staff meet with representatives of committees and departments to provide insight on teaching-related issues.
- FTAD staff also meets with individuals, i.e., faculty members and TAs, to help with issues such as classroom management and development of teaching styles. To help individuals, FTAD may use one or more of the following:
- Get feedback from students in the instructor’s class.
- Observe the class.
- Videotape part or all of the class.
- Events on Teaching
- FTAD hosts a number of events throughout the year that facilitate improving one’s teaching and classroom management skills. Through these workshops, seminars, and forums, FTAD looks to address issues that come up in college teaching and learning.
- In addition to university-wide events, FTAD also collaborates with colleges, campuses, and departments to develop events specifically tailored to meet the needs of that unit.
- A list of some of the possible event topics is available at this link.
