Introduction to Spatial Statistics: Stat 631

About the Course
This 3-credit course will be taught next in the Spring 2013 quarter. It is taught at a Masters level for Statistics graduate students and students from other disciplines who satisfy the prerequisites. Prerequisites for the course are Stat 645 or Geog 883.02.

Introduction to Spatial Statistics (Stat 631) in Spring 2011

The lectures present an introduction to statistical methods for geostatistical data, regional data, and spatial point patterns. Theoretical properties are illustrated with simulation, and applications are emphasized in take-home tutorials.

Specific Topics
  • Spatial random processes
  • Geostatistical data
  • Covariance functions and variograms
  • General linear model
  • Interpolation and kriging
  • Geostatistical simulation
  • Regional data
  • Analysis of counts and rates
