MAIN PROGRAM SHORT COURSE



This 3 1/2 hour Short Course on Bayesian Hierarchical Statistics preceded the workshop. It was organized by The Ohio State University's
Program in Spatial Statistics and Environmental Sciences (SSES), and was jointly sponsored by SSES and ASA's Section for Statistics and the Environment (ENVR). Separate registration was required for the Short Course and the Workshop.

Short Course Instructors

Short Course Main Topics
Short Course participants were requested to have at least a Masters (or equivalent) degree in Statistics; no prior knowledge of Bayesian or hierarchical statistics was assumed. The Short Course topics included the motivation for hierarchical models, simple tutorial examples, implementation details, and multi-level hierarchical models for processes distributed in time, space, and space-time. Examples were taken from the environmental sciences. Course participants received handouts supplementing the topics covered. An outline containing Main Topics gives more details.
Fee
The fee for the short course was $200, and included course materials and refreshments at break time. A reduced fee of $100 was available for participants certified to be full-time students.
