Identifiability of Trait Evolution Models

Cecile Ane
University of Wisconsin

3:30PM - Thursday, November 12, 2009
Room 170, Eighteenth Avenue Bldg. (EA 170)

ABSTRACT

Comparative data collected across biological species violate the assumption of independence across sampling units. Instead, units have a hierarchical dependence structure, that can be captured from their genealogical relationships. The most common models that biologists use for hierarchical dependence will be reviewed. I will discuss identifiability issues and the need for an adjusted BIC in these models. I will also show similarities with dependence models usually encountered in spatial statistics, and fundamental differences.

Meet the speaker in Room 212 Cockins Hall at 4:30 p.m. Refreshments will be served.
