Making a Difference: A Career as a Statistician at a Liberal Arts College

Julie Legler, St. Olaf College

3:30PM - Tuesday, May 16, 2006
Room 170, Eighteenth Avenue Bldg. (EA 170)

ABSTRACT

Hiring a statistician is a top priority for many liberal arts colleges. This is an exciting time of transformation in statistics education and liberal arts professors are likely to be in a position to participate in these changes. In addition, changes in the style of pedagogy now accommodate problem-based, interdisciplinary learning that incorporates community service elements. Life as a statistician at a liberal arts college is described and the pros and cons are explored. Recommendations on how to prepare a career in liberal arts are provided as is information on some unique opportunities that now exist for those interested in a career as a statistician in a liberal arts college.

Meet the speaker in Room 212 Cockins Hall at 4:30 p.m. Refreshments will be served.
