DATE Announcement
11/30 On the "other" page, I have now posted the Final Exam Review (topic outline). This covers chapters 3 - 8.
11/28 FOR THE FINAL EXAM, A PHOTO ID WILL BE REQUIRED AT THE TIME YOU HAND IN THE EXAM. IF YOU DO NOT HAVE A PHOTO ID, YOUR EXAM WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED.
11/28 On the practice exam page, I have posted a sample final exam. Solutions will be posted at the end of this week.
11/21 In Chapter 7, you should read the material about "robustness" on pages 462 and 463.
11/14 WARNING ABOUT TABLE C
There is a bizarre printing error in table C
It seems to be only on page T-7 and for n = 5,n=6 and n=7
The last line (or two lines for n=7) have been shifted to the left
the blanks should be at the beginning of the line, not the end and all the actual entries are in the wrong column
for example, for n=6, k=6, the first two entries should be blank, the third entry should be 0.0001, the fourth column should be 0.0002, etc.
11/7 Quiz 4 will cover sec. 5.1 as well as Chapter 3.
11/4 I am now returning the midterm exams. You must get your exam from me, the TAs do not have them and will not give you your grade. To find out your grade you have to get the exam from me. You will need a photo ID as I will not give your exam to anyone else but you.
You may get the exam after lecture on Monday or Wednesday or during the day on Monday or Wednesday between 9:30am and 12:00noon or prior to class.
11/1 Quiz 3 will cover Chapter 4.
Quiz 4 will cover Chapter 3.
10/31 If the person who absent-mindedly walked off with the calculator wants to return it anonymously, you can put it into the sta135 "Drop Box" outside of room 413(on the right side). It is small enough to fit through the slot. To be sure it gets back to me, you could put it into an envelope with my name on it before putting it into the drop box. It is so slim, it fits under the door of my office if you are willing to risk being seen slipping it under there.
10/24 Tomorrow, Tuesday, I will be in my office from about 9am to noon if you have questions regarding the midterm
10/23 On Wednesday, November 23, the day before Thanksgiving break, we will have a lecture and there will be a homework due. If you choose not to submit it in lecture you will be subject to the limit of 3 that holds for all other homework submissions.

NOTE that recitations will NOT meet that afternoon.

10/23 You will have recitation on Wednesday after the midterm and on Thursday. You will be going over the material from Section 4.4 in those recitations. We do not have time in the schedule to slack off after the exam.
10/19 In addition to the textbook material for Chapters 1 and 2 and section 9.1, the midterm exam covers the calculus supplement for sec. 2.3. Make sure you can do the homework problems that were assigned from the supplement. This is especially important because the calculus material is not included in either the practice midterm or the review outline.
10/19 I have posted a practice midterm on the "Practice Exams and Solutions" page. I'll post the solutions on Monday.
I have also posted a Midterm Review outline on the "Other Information" page. I will go over this topic list on Monday when I review for the exam.
10/14 Quiz 2 next Tuesday and Wednesday will cover sections 2.1, 2.2,and 2.3.
9/29 Quiz 1 will cover sections 1.1, 1.2, and part of 1.3 (based on the "supplemental" questions, and not using normal tables)
9/29 You may go to the Statistics Help Room, 130 Cockins Hall, for help whenever it is open .

For information about Help Room hours and the times at which our TAs will be there, see " TA Office Hour Information" on the "Other Information" page
9/29 The "Other Information" page accessed through the links on the top and left side of this page contains:
Midterm and Final Reviews(when available)
TA office hour information
A link to the publisher's website that you can use to access applets and EESEE.
9/21 ACADEMIC MISCONDUCT: The following statement was inadvertantly omitted from the syllabus that is posted on this website and has now been added.
ACADEMIC MISCONDUCT: Please help us to maintain an academic environment of mutual respect, fair treatment, and personal growth. Cheating, plagiarism and other forms of academic dishonesty will not be tolerated. Any violation will be prosecuted to the fullest extent as set out in University Rule 3335-31-02 (oaa.osu.edu/procedures). Exams are to be completed individually. Although students are encouraged to work together on homework assignments, you must submit your own written work in your own words. Copying homework solutions from answer keys will not be tolerated.
8/12 If you need to turn in homework at some time other than the time specified on the assignment, it should be given directly to me or
you may put it under the door to my office.
You must show your TA's name on the homework.
DO NOT take it to the department office.
DO NOT try to put it into the TA's mailbox (I do not allow the TA's to accept homework that you put into their mailboxes.)
DO NOT put the homework into the "drop boxes" in the hallway. I WILL NOT ACCEPT HOMEWORK THAT HAS BEEN LEFT IN THOSE BOXES.
Note that I will accept homework that is left under my door after the lecture PROVIDED that I get it BEFORE I post the solutions on the web site.

Also, if you cannot make it to class, you may send homework solutions to ME (NOT to a TA) as an e-mail attachment, provided it is neatly arranged into ONE MS Word (or PDF) file that I can read, and that shows your name and the TA's name when it is opened. I must receive it before I post the solutions. You must show in the body or the subject line of the e-mail your TA's name and the number of the homework.

I do not regard any of these alternative methods of submitting homework solutions as a substitute for attending class. To avoid having people abuse these procedures, I am putting a limit of 3 times on accepting homework that is not turned in at the specified class meeting.
8/31 The TEXT upgrade package mentioned below in my 8/12 memo is REQUIRED. Some students like to have a copy of the required software package, Minitab, to use at home (it is available free at all PC labs on campus). For you, I RECOMMEND buying the EXPANDED TEXTBOOK PACKAGE that includes a CD with a student version of Minitab that you can run on your own PC (Minitab does NOT run on MACS). This costs about $12 more than the basic required package.
8/12 The TEXT BOOK is: Introduction to the Practice of Statistics, by David Moore and George McCabe, Fifth Edition (with CD-ROM), W.H. Freeman & Co.
This is a new edition and has substantial changes from the fourth edition. It also comes bundled with an upgrade study pack at no extra charge.
Buying a used copy of the 4th edition is STRONGLY DISCOURAGED!
