UW CONFERENCE SERVICES HOUSING CONFIRMATION FOR: New Researchers Conference 2006 Check in time is after 2:00 p.m. on 8/1/2006 at McMahon Hall. Luggage will be stored for those arriving earlier. Check out time is before 11:00 a.m. on 8/5/2006. ACCOMMODATIONS: All rooms are furnished with twin beds and local-access telephones with voice mail. (Long distance calls may be placed using a credit card or prepaid calling card.) Bed linen and towels are provided. Beds are made and fresh towels are provided daily. Television lounges, microwave ovens, laundry facilities, and vending machines are located throughout each building. Rooms share community bath facilities. Males and females are permitted to occupy the same room on request. This may cause the appropriate bathroom for one gender to be located one floor above or below the assigned room. Smoking is prohibited in all sleeping rooms and public areas of the residence halls. Alcohol usage is prohibited in all areas except by persons of legal age in private quarters. THINGS TO BRING: Listed below are some items you might bring along to make your stay on campus more comfortable. Seattle weather is generally mild, with temperatures averaging 70-80F. Heat waves occur periodically and most campus buildings, including the residence halls, are not air-conditioned; a fan is placed in each room. Be prepared for cooler evenings and occasional rain showers! We recommend bringing: an alarm clock, lounge wear (appropriate for common living area), shower slippers, umbrella and/or raincoat, reading lamps (please no halogen lamps). Should you prefer to bring your own pillow or towels, please be sure to choose a color other than white! The University of Washington is a pedestrian campus, bring comfortable walking shoes and be prepared to walk. DIRECTIONS TO CAMPUS: McMahon, Haggett, McCarty, and Hansee Halls: Via Interstate-5: Take Exit 169, NE 45th St. and turn east (right if traveling northbound, left if traveling southbound) onto 45th St. Travel east on NE 45th St. to 17th Ave NE and turn south (right) onto campus. Stop at the parking gate to purchase a permit if it is open, or proceed to Stevens Way and turn east (left). Follow Stevens Way until you reach Whitman Court (to the left). After turning left onto Whitman Court, you will find McMahon, Haggett, McCarty and Hansee Halls (in that order) on the right-hand side of the road. Please note all parking on campus is restricted to paid permits all days except Sundays and holidays. Construction: During Summer 2006 Stevens Way will be under ongoing construction. For ease of travel, we recommend the following detour: After turning east on NE 45th St, travel to 15th Ave NE and turn south (right). Merge into the left lane. Proceed down 15th Ave NE. Turn left (east) onto 40th Street NE and onto campus. Stop at the parking gate if it is open, or proceed up the hill and turn right at the first Stop sign. Follow Stevens Way until you reach Whitman Court (to the right). You will then proceed onto Whitman Court as stated above. Terry and Lander Halls: Via Interstate-5: Take Exit 169, NE 45th St. and turn east (right if traveling northbound, left if traveling southbound) onto 45th St. Travel east on NE 45th St. to Roosevelt Way NE. Turn south (right) on Roosevelt Way. Continue driving south until you pass NE 42nd. Get in the left turn lane for NE Campus Parkway. Turn left onto NE Campus Parkway. Terry and Lander Residence Halls (in that order) are on your right. Limited metered street parking may be available in front of both buildings or you may proceed on NE Campus Parkway in the right lane to 15th Ave NE. Turn right on 15th Ave NE, immediately get in the left lane, and proceed one block to 40th Street NE. Turn left (east) onto 40th Street NE and onto campus. Stop at the parking gate to purchase a permit if it is open and request parking for Terry/Lander Halls. Please note all parking on campus is restricted to paid permits all days except Sundays and holidays. Door-to-door 24-hour service. The cost is $25.00 per person one way. Advance reservations are required on trips returning to SeaTac. PARKING: The current daily rate is $10.00 Monday through Friday and $4.00 on Saturday; 7a.m. to 12 noon. Effective July 1, 2006 the parking rates will be $11.00 Monday through Friday and $5.00 on Saturday 7a.m. to 12 noon. There is no charge to park on campus from 12 noon on Saturday to 12 midnight on Sunday or holidays. A few parking areas near the residence halls are assigned on a first-come, first-served basis. The parking rates are subject to change without notice. You will be required to purchase a daily parking permit upon entrance to the campus (except Sunday and Holidays). Long-term permits, valid for the duration of your stay, will be available for purchase at the residence hall desk. KEYS: When you check in, you will be issued a room key, a building entrance key or card, and possibly a bathroom key. Lost keys present a serious security risk for the residence halls. A room key lost or not returned will result in an immediate lock change for which you will be charged $45 + tax. CANCELLATION POLICY: Guests who cancel prior to the deadline date will receive a full refund, less the Reservation/Confirmation Fee. Guests who cancel after the deadline date but before the scheduled arrival date forfeit the Reservation/Confirmation Fee (and, if applicable, the late reservation fee), plus 10 percent of the package rate or one day's room and board, whichever is greater. NO-SHOW POLICY: Guests who do not cancel in advance and do not check-in, forfeit the full pre-payment. This policy applies to group lists as well as individual reservations. EARLY ARRIVAL/LATE DEPARTURES: Early arrival and late departure guests may be housed in a different residence hall then where the conference will be housed if there are less than 5 guests requesting early arrival and late departure nights. The guests would then move to the conference assigned residence hall on the official arrival day. There is no refund for cancelled early arrival or late departure nights after the reservation deadline date.
