Ninth Meeting of New Researchers in Statistics and Probability

University of Washington, Seattle, WA

August 1 - August 5, 2006

Useful information for participants

Here is some information that will be useful before the New Researchers Meeting:

  1. We are staying in McMahon Hall at the University of Washington. After you booked your room on the Conference Services website you should have received an email giving details about check-in times, accomodations, things to bring, and transportation to campus. A copy of that message appears at the end of this email and on the conference website.

  2. You will find a draft copy of the program, abstract, and a copy of this email message on the New Researchers website at http://www.stat.ohio-state.edu/~pfc/NRC/program.php.

  3. The first event of the week is a mixer on Tuesday 1 Aug from 7pm - 10pm. This will be held in the Pompeii room in McMahon Hall. We would love to see you on Tuesday at the mixer, but if you cannot attend, please make sure you are at the conference by 8:30am on Wed 2 Aug. The regular daily sessions will be held in Miller, Room 301.

  4. For those people giving talks, please note that we will have one computer set up in the room for giving presentations. The machine (a PC) will have Acrobat Reader (for PDF files) and Powerpoint installed. Please bring your talk on a USB key for uploading on the machine, before your session begins. If you would prefer to email your talk to us at <email address removed>, please do so by Mon 24 July
Mac Users: please test your files on a PC, before you give your talk. There is a known history of font problems when certain computer programs are used.

  5. The poster session and conference dinner will be on the evening of Thu 3 Aug. There are three choices for the conference dinner:
    1. chicken
    2. vegetarian or
    3. fish
The preferences must be made beforehand!
    • Please email us at <email address removed> with your choice.
    • The deadline for this is Fri 14 July.
    • If we do not hear from you, we will book you a vegetarian meal.

  6. At the current time, we will reimburse AT LEAST $150 of your travel fees (flight, parking, gas, cab fares, etc...).
    • The flight should be on a US carrier.
    • You MUST have receipts AND and your boarding pass to claim the money.
All reimbursements will be dealt with after the Joint Statistical meetings (JSM) -- we will email instructions at that time.

  7. The last event of the week is on Sat 5 Aug from 11.30-12.30. Lunch is not provided. After we finish, we will gather our belongings and head to downtown Seattle (the location of JSM) using Seattle's excellent public transportation services that run from the University Avenue at the edge of campus. Bus Schedules: 71 72 73 74

Please email us at <email address removed> if you have any questions!

We look forward to seeing you all in Seattle.

Best wishes,

Peter Craigmile and Peter Hoff.
