This is a reading course for graduate students interested in developing programming skills for statistical computing. This is not a lecture course but rather a series of informal group meetings interspersed with individual or small group meetings. The goal of the meetings will be to generate an environment that facilitates individual or group learning on the part of the students (through examples, advice, discussion, etc.). I will go over basics in the large group meetings, but you should plan to find a C/C++ book that you are comfortable with to fill in the gaps. As with any reading course, the emphasis is on individual motivation and effort: simply sitting in on the large group meetings will not be very useful. See the syllabus and schedule for additional information. |
