Welcome and Announcements

June 11: Final exam grades have now been posted on Carmen and final grades have been uploaded to the Registrar. I did curve the final exam grades as well as the final grades a bit. Thanks for all your hard work this quarter. If you'd like to discuss anything about the course, stop by or send me an email.

June 3: There was a small typo in Homework 7 - the numbers were correct, but the first sentence for problem 12.48 was incorrect. It is now fixed.

May 27: I've added some annotated MINITAB output for the barges example to the notes section of the website. Sorry we couldn't look at it live today.

May 22: I've tweaked HW6 a bit to remove some parts that we might not get to in class before the due date.

May 15: I've added the last example we did in class today to the "testing examples" in the notes section of the website.

May 14: In reviewing notes today, I've come across several errors on the "summary" charts for tests. I've made the corrections to the posted notes, and will highlight the changes in class tomorrow.

May 13: I have fixed several typos on today's notes.

May 11: I have posted extra examples on the "notes" page (updated 9:55am, 5/12).

May 8: Homework 4 due date has been changed to Wednescay, May 13.

May 5: I have added a new tutorial on how to use MINITAB to obtain critical values, confidence intervals and hypothesis tests in the "Computing" section of this website.

May 4: Exam 2 has been moved to Monday, May 18

Apr. 24: The solutions for Exam 1 are now posted in the exams section.

Apr. 22: The grades for Exam 1 are posted on Carmen now. I'll be returning the exams on Friday in class, and will post the solutions by then as well.

Apr. 20: Adjusted tutor room hours! Since homeworks tend to be due on Fridays, we have made a change to make TAs more available on Friday. As a result, they will be less available on Mondays. The new hours are:

M 12:30 - 1:30 (Ted Yang)
T 9:30 - 12:30 (Siyoen Kil) and 12:30 - 4:30 (Tian Chen)
W 11:30 - 12:30 (Siyoen Kil) and 12:30 - 3:30 (Ted Yang)
R 9:30 - 1:30 (Siyoen Kil) and 1:30 - 2:30 (Ted Yang)
F 12:30 - 3:30 (Ted Yang)

Apr. 19: Thanks to a student who found an error in my calculation of the MOM estimator in the practice problem. It has now been updated.

Apr. 17: Graded Homework 1 is now available. Feel free to drop by my office today to pick it up.

Apr. 17: Both the summary of expected value/variance and the solution to the practice problem we discussed today are now posted in the "notes" section of this web page--updated at 9:57am.

Apr. 15: Since I did not quite finish the material I had intended to get to today, I have uploaded some hints for one of the homework problems to Carmen. This includes the MLE calculation for the Normal distribution. Please look over this before class on Friday, as I intend to go through it fairly quickly so that we have time for the example problem.

Apr. 8: I've had several questions about homework and graphs. It is up to you if you would like to use a computer (like MINITAB) to create histograms and other graphs or if you would like to create them by hand. If you do choose to use MINITAB to make your histograms, I've added some hints to work with histograms in MINITAB in the computing section of this website.

Apr. 1: It's no joke - the Stat 428 tutor room (CH 128) will be open starting Monday, April 6. It will be staffed:

M 12:30 - 3:30 (Ted Yang)
T 9:30 - 12:30 (Siyoen Kil) and 12:30 - 4:30 (Tian Chen)
W 11:30 - 12:30 (Siyoen Kil) and 12:30 - 3:30 (Ted Yang)
R 9:30 - 1:30 (Siyoen Kil) and 1:30 - 2:30 (Ted Yang)
F 12:30 - 1:30 (Ted Yang)

Mar. 27: Welcome to Intro to Prob and Stat II. I will be using this site to post notes, homeworks, and announcements, so check back often! I'll be using the Carmen system to maintain the gradebook for this course, as well as occasionally post restricted items. I'll let you know about these as we need them.
