Enrollment in 1000-5000 Level Statistics Courses

Spring Semester 2017

Room capacity limits cannot be exceeded because of fire code laws, no exceptions – OSU rule.

Seeking instructor permission to enroll in a statistics class? Please do not contact the instructor for a signature. Our faculty have been asked not to sign enrollment permission forms because they do not have access to current enrollments/room capacity information/your advising report and they may not be able to respond in a timely manner. See Jean Scott, in Cockins 408A, for course permission. If you seek permission because the class is closed, follow the instructions below.

If a class is closed, add yourself to the wait list through BuckeyeLink. Check your schedule periodically to see if you have been added. Please note that if there is a time conflict; prerequisite not met; you are already enrolled in another section of the same course; adding this class will exceed 18 credit hours; or a hold on your account, you will not be added through the wait list system. If any of these apply, you will be bypassed by the next student on the wait list. You may attend the class the first week of the semester provided that you do not take a seat from someone already scheduled into the class. The wait list system closes at 5 pm the first Friday of the semester. (If you are not added from the wait list by 5 pm, Friday, January 13th, you will not be added to the course through the wait list system). Another strategy for entering a closed section is described on the back.*

OSU is closed on Monday, January 16th. Beginning Tuesday, January 17, the department will add students to classes or change sections, (provided that there are open seats and the instructor has agreed to accept late enrollments**), on a first-come first-serve basis beginning at 7:00 am on Tuesday, January 17th and again on Wednesday, January 18th in 408A Cockins Hall. Cockins Hall opens by 6am. We cannot add students to courses if there is a hold on your record, adding this class will exceed 18 credit hours, or you do not meet the prerequisites.

The only exception to the above rules are students graduating in May 2017. Graduating students seeking enrollment permission should have applied to graduate. Email Jean Scott or report to 408A Cockins Hall ASAP. Our ability to assist a graduating student is significantly reduced after Tuesday, January 3rd.

If you have any questions, please contact Jean Scott (Undergraduate Program Coordinator), 408A Cockins Hall; phone: 614-688-5913; or email: scott.961@osu.edu.

* Closed Section Strategy

If the section of a class you wish to take is closed, consider enrolling in a different section. If a student later drops from your preferred section, we can do a section change. If you are not already enrolled in a section of the course, there is a good chance we will not give permission for a late add into your preferred section (see late enrollments below). If you are enrolled and actively attending, providing a seat opens in your preferred section, it is a relatively simple process to do a section change and there are no late add fees associated with a section change.

** Late enrollments

Any student enrollments in BuckeyeLink after Friday of the first week of classes when the self-enrollment period ends is considered a late enrollment and requires permission to enroll. Many of our instructors do not accept late enrollments. This can vary by semester and the instructor. The following firm enrollment deadlines apply to STAT 1350, 1430, and 1450.

STAT 1350 last day to enroll, even with permission is 4:30pm on Tuesday, January 17th, 2017.
STAT 1430 last day to enroll, even with permission is 4:30pm on Friday, January 13th, 2017.
STAT 1450 last day to enroll in the online section, even with permission is 4:30pm on Friday, January 13th, 2017.
STAT 1450 last day to enroll in an in-person section, even with permission is 4:30pm on Friday, January 20th, 2017.
