Alternatives to FTPTo avoid sending clear text passwords we are blocking FTP access outside of the building. The Windows SSH client has SFTP built in. This is the simplist way to transfer files. E-mail attachments are another way to transfer files. Also, putting file on the web, or using anonymous FTP are other possibilities. If you cannot use one of the above methods, you will have to tunnel the command channel through an SSH client. Tunneling with the ssh.com Windows clientFirst you must set up the tunnel. Open the Windows SSH
client. Click on Edit -> Settings. In the left hand pane,
under Profile Settings, expand Tuneling. Click on outgoing.
Click on Add and make it look like the following: Open WS_FTP (or your favorite FTP client). Create a new
profile that looks like: You should now be able to connect using this profile. But remeber, you must be connected via the SSH client for the tunnel to be active, and WS_FTP to work. When finished close WS_FTP, and close the SSH client It may complain about there still being active connections, as it holds the tunnel open, but if you've quit WS_FTP go ahead and close. |
