Windows Software Available at OSU and for Personal Use
Note:
This is geared towards graduate students, but also provides some
information for faculty. Faculty, for obtaining software, please
see the Support Staff.
Most software is valid only while you are at OSU, and must be
removed when leaving OSU.
Some of the free software the Support Staff has available
for loan on CD.

servers. A six month version is also available for $30.

Microsoft Products. $155. From the OSU Bookstore, the Buckeye
Bundle includes Office Professional, Front Page, Visual Studio,
and all the desktop operating systems. Although, if you don't
need Windows XP, Visual Studio, Access or Front Page, it may be
better to purchase the Office Student and Teacher Edition from
Micro Center or Best Buy, which will allow you to install Office
on three household computers for a little over $100.
Expensive:

Exceed. $250. Use Xwin32 or Cygwin instead. See Above.

Maple. $140. (This is a student full version. Site license
version is available for TAs/RAs who have their computers on
Campus.)

Mathematica, from Physics. $1000/department. Note: this is
the Department site license which we don't have.

SAS. Only available on University owned machines. You can use
it remotely on our Unix machines. Also, there is SAS Learning
Edition available for $125. It's limited to 1000 observations,
expires after four years, and may not have all the add
ons we have, but does have the important ones. See: here.

Stata. $145. (or $89/year) From Stata. Order
Online, pay, then pick it up from OIT.

Most of this information was gleaned from OIT's Site License
Page. Note, if it says available with a 100W or Research
Foundation PO, or to faculty and staff only, that isn't grad
students.
Unicomp used to be the campus computer store, where discounted software
could have been purchased by students, but the University closed
it, leaving a void. As it is now, go to the manufacturer of some of
the software here to purchase student versions.
