Change from ohio-state.edu to osu.edu Information
This will occur in four phases:
- web (done 02/26/07)
- secure web (done 03/17/07)
- mail (done 03/17/07)
- individual hosts (not scheduled)
The web/mail are in place and we will hopefully change the hosts over the
Summer.
Currently the University level IT is blocking us from moving hosts
into osu.edu, so that may be a while. (We've been working on this for
3 years now.) Thus machine names will remain stat.ohio-state.edu for now.
The old addresses for web/email will continue to work for quite some time
(likely at least 5 years), so this should be mostly transparent.
Changes you may wish to make relating to all changes:
- Change signatures and business cards
- Remember to update old references in textbooks and other course materials
Changes you may wish to make when the web change happens:
- Rebookmark your bookmarks to our site with the new address
- Change any specific ohio-state.edu references in pages you maintain
Changes you will need to make when the secure web
change happens:
- Rebookmark any bookmarks to our site with the new address.
If you do not you'll get a certificate warning when you connect.
These links should be rare, as most are linked from within
other pages. The common ones will be the webmail and scheduler
application.
Changes you may wish to make when the mail change happens:
- Change your e-mail address in Outlook, Apple Mail, etc.
Do not change the server addresses from mail.stat.ohio-state.edu yet!
- Notify your contacts of the change
- Mailing list memberships, some require that an e-mail address is
on the list in order to post
- Online accounts using your e-mail address
- Change your osu.edu forward address, and other forwards
Again, this should all continue to work as is, these are just some optional
things we've tried to think of that you may want to update.
Changes the web developers will need to make:
- Any web pages, especially forms, that you support
- Any web pages that reference https
- Any direct links to www.stat.ohio-state.edu, but as you should be
using relative links, this should be few.
Changes the support staff will make for you on our system:
- Any references to ohio-state.edu will be changed on the web
pages we support.
- Membership on any of our mailing lists (mailman)
- Usernames in the online scheduler
- squirrelmail aliases and outgoing addresses
- search the web for sites that link to us and request URL changes
