Statistics Computer Host Descriptions

There are many different machines which provide different services. This is a list of different hostnames and their purposes. For host complete names add .stat.osu.edu.

Unix Login / Compute Machines:

• mordor
  The public linux login machine. Runs XDM. Compute jobs are not allowed on this machine.

• mirkwood, lorien, rohan, gondor, rivendell, shire
  Linux compute machines. Dual Quad Core Xeon 2.66, 32GB RAM.

• merry, pippin, legolas, gimli
  Linux compute machines. Dual Eight Core Xeon 2.7, 384GB RAM. Priority on this machine is for memory intensive jobs.

• weathertop
  Linux compute machine. Dual Six Core Xeon 2.66, 48GB RAM. Two Nividia Tesla C2050 GPU computing cards. Priority on this machine is for GPU computing.

Windows Login / Compute Machines:

• melomel
  Windows machine available for remote use with Remote Desktop. Quad Eight Core Xeon 2.13, 128GB RAM.

Services: These are not login machines, but provide important services.

• trad
  A Windows machine providing file services to Windows and Macintosh.

• capsimel
  A Windows machine providing print services to Windows.

• samba
  A linux machine providing file services to Windows and Macintosh.

• ftp
  The host holding our anonymous ftp files and drop boxes.

• ntp
  The local time synchronization server.
